A few days ago, I posted a question about aw11 Mr2 !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Basically, my MR2 that I picked up last month only came with one key, the "wallet" spare. I thought it would be cool to track down some original OEM key blanks since my car is very original with only 57k.

After consulting my fellow Opponauts, I learned that I wanted keys with a plastic head. Further research showed that there were two types of keys out there. It looked like part number 90999-00106 were the original keys, and then Toyota replaced that with 90999-00212.

-00106 has raised Toyota letters but -00212 has the letters cut into it. TwosRUs.com had -00106, so I ordered two!

Well I got them in the mail today, and they sent me -00212. I paid a little extra to get the -00106 from them and I really wanted original keys. Their site states quantities are limited, but part -00106 is clearly the part being advertised.

I'm not sure if I should be upset, or I'm just having a major first-world problem. I know it's only a sub $5k Toyota, but if I had a Concours condition 1 of 36 cars-with-those-options-and-color-combos at Barrett-Jackson, the wrong keys would be a kind of a big deal.

Kinja'd!!!

What do you think, would you be upset?

Of course you should and don't feel weird about it. This is how you keep things honest. Wish more people raised a stink.

Man thats pretty odd, TwosRUs are usually tops when it comes to stuff like this. Definitely shoot them an email and I bet you'll get something out of them, be it a refund or credit or something.

I think as long you convey that and the fact that you didn't get what was advertised you'll be good! Maybe they just sent you a SW20 set instead of an AW11 and they'll send you the right keys and let you keep the ones you already got!

On the bright side, I think the debossed (sunken letter) one is the original style, and the embossed (raised letter) style is the replacement. I'm no expert, and I never owned a new '80s Toyota, but I have driven hundreds of them. To me, the embossed one looks and feels proper. I don't mean to dispute your research, but that's the key I'd personally choose.

Kinja'd!!!

Regardless, you have every right to be upset and deserve a replacement or refund. They aren't selling keys that merely work properly, they are marketing the fact that they are correct in every facet. You ordered and paid for the 00106s, you deserve the 00106s.

no worries, I'm not an expert either! this is the site that lead me to believe that -00106 was the original key. It states that this part # was replaced by -00212.

Kinja'd!!!

Also, the 00212 keys are pretty easy to come by. I mean, it's just the key, but like you said, I ordered 00106's :/

Looks like that is correct. This says that 00106 was used with the MR2 from production dates Dec. '84 until Dec. '89 (among other vehicles) and 00212 was used with Land Cruisers from January '90 until July '00.

There's also another part number preceding 00212. 90999-00104 . It looks similar yet not identical, ad isn't listed as being an MR2 part.

I heard back from them this morning. They said that 00106 was discontinued three years ago and 00212 was the replacement. Oh well, I'll just keep these I guess

I wrote them an email and they already got back to me. They said the keys I want were discontinued by Toyota three years ago, but offered me a refund if i returned them. I'll probably just keep these, I'm paranoid only having one key.
